What is the greatest compliment you've received?
Submitted by Maraschino.
When I was in grad school, I acted in a few shows in the local theater company. It was a tradition at this small theater company to do a meet-and-greet with audience members after the shows. Which was fun, especially after matinees when many of the audience members were senior citizens - they were always the most appreciative audiences, and I liked talking with them.
After one production of "The Mousetrap" I was speaking with several women, and received the most memorable compliment. She told me she admired my performance, and then said something I never forgot:
"It's so nice to see a young woman who knows how to sit down in and stand up from a chair properly."
Windows, Mac, Linux - What's your preference and why?

I absolutely, without a doubt, love my Mac.
It's an ancient iBook clamshell - so ancient, in fact, that when I broke the power cable I had trouble finding a replacement. It doesn't have a CD-burner - but it does play DVDs. It's heavy and clunky.
But the operating system is way sexy. And that's enough for me.
What's your favorite way to keep in touch? Phone, snail mail, email, text message, Vox, _____ ?
I love gmail. Love love love love gmail. I love the conversation setup, I love the search options, I love never having to delete anything, ever.
I hate the phone. Hate hate hate hate the phone. It's weird, I know, but I can't stand talking on the phone. I don't know what it is, but I just can't stand it.
I do enjoy face to face conversations with people I know well, but if I don't know you well? Expect an e-mail. But don't expect me to call.
If you could get someone in your life to start a blog, who would it be and why?
This one is easy. I'd nominate Co-Emp in a second. She's witty, smart, funny, and a really super-cool individual. Plus, she's got a cool job, and I'd love to read about her day to day life at work as well as her life in general.
And did I mention she's funny? And super-cool? I did? Well, believe it. Because she is. And the rest of the world needs to know it.
Who is your favorite Muppet? Why?
QotD submitted by knitwitology.vox.com.
Wow, this is a tough one. A real tough one. Because I have a soft place in my heart for all of my muppets.
But really, it's two that stand out to me - the lovable Grover, first of all, because he always tried so damn hard and always ended up making a mess. Before Elmo, before Telly, and the rest of them, there was Grover.
And yes, I do remember the Grover and Jon Jon sketch from when I was a wee child.
I even had a Grover hat and scarf combo which I wore with pride - it was purple and white stiped, and had a Grover patch on it. I loved it.
But my all time favorite muppet?
Cookie Monster. I loved, loved, loved Cookie Monster. When I was a toddler, I got some sort of blue monster bank, and it scared me until my parents told me it was a Cookie Monster bank (it so wasn't, but at least I could sleep at night).
And, to continue the muppet inspired warm clothing them, I had a cardigan sweater with Cookie Monster's picture and a world bubble that said "C is for Cookie." I wore that sweater for years, even after it was too small.
Cookie was awesome, because he had no manners, loved cookies, and I always thought he would give the best hugs. Plus, his googly-eyes cracked me up.
What did you do this weekend?
I watched two movies! Which is more than I've watched in a long time.
I was absolutely in love with the BBC Miniseries of Pride & Prejudice that came out a few years ago, and must admit that I didn't think "that girl from Pirates" would be very good in the role of Lizzie. Boy, was I in for a surprise. I loved this movie, which was completely different from the miniseries in a way that made me appreciate it all on its own. Darcy was... much a much sweeter arrogant ass than I would have expected, but I liked it.
And, on a completely different note, right after Pride & Prejudice I watched Murderball, a documentary about the US wheelchair rugby team that competes in the Paralympic Games. These guys are exactly like the rugby player types I remember from my brother's rugby games - 100% jocks who play to win, no matter what. The only difference is the gear - they happen to be in wheelchairs. The best parts, to me, were seeing the guys off the field, and seeing them interact with a newly wheelchair-bound jock as well as injured soldiers just back from Iraq. Really, though, it was a great sports doc.
What's the strongest association you have between a scent and a memory?
A couple of years ago, I was shopping at Bath and Body Works and sniffed a bottle of their (now discontinued) Ginger Lime lotion. I was completely taken by surprise, because it smelled exactly like my grandparent's back porch in Ohio - which had neither ginger nor limes.
We would visit my grandparents every summer, and the screened in back porch was our favorite spot to hang out. it was as long as the house, had a pass through window into the kitchen, and we would eat and sit and talk and play cards on that porch for hours. I remember a very distinct smell - cut grass and herbs and flowers and clean outdoor scents.
I had been trying to find a candle or some other fragrance that
captured the scent, but never in a million years would have guessed I
would find it in a bottle of Ginger Lime lotion.
